Group visit to John Taylor & Co, Bell Foundry  SORRY - SOLD OUT!

At the Taylor Bell Foundry, probably more large bells have been cast than at any other bell foundry in the history of bell founding. Bells from Loughborough have been exported all over the world. Unlike some other English Bell Founders who have contracted out the casting of such large bells whilst putting their name on them, all the bells are cast in Taylor’s own foundry by its own skilled craftsmen using the traditional skills associated only with English bell founding.

Address: The Bell Foundry, Freehold Street, Loughborough, LE11 1AR

Cost of visit: £11.00 Full Foundry Tour      SORRY - SOLD OUT!

Classic Car Run to Barkby Hall
Barkby Hall cows and hall 5.JPEG

The association of the Pochin [pronounced Putchin] family with Barkby goes back to 1447, and they were landowners in the area for at least two centuries before that. Previously they came from Whissendine in Rutland having arrived in this country at a minor event in 1066 [as immigrants!]

The present house was built by Wyatt in 1807 around an Elizabethan core dating from about 1600. The house was reduced in size in the 1850’s and has undergone various other changes in 1870 [front door moved] and 1902 [Billiard room] and a swimming pool in 2000. Extensive repairs against dry rot were done in 1990’s. The house and grounds are a private domain not normally open to the public, but you are most welcome to enjoy the gardens.

The gardens extend to around 8 acres including the woodland and the Parkland is about 50 acres and may have been designed by William Emes. The gardens seem to have been redesigned about every 50 years and are presently undergoing another redesign.

The family’s first car in 1906 was a 30hp Daimler. The car collection, which includes many Daimlers, Aston Martins and a magnificent Green Goddess Fire Pump - has been built up by the present owner John Pochin during his lifetime.

Roots Farm Shop of Barkby can provide a superb lunch box for £10 containing a piece of Pork Pie, a piece of Quiche, Sandwiches, Salad & a Cold Drink. (Special Dietary Requirements can be catered for, please specify.)
Please order at the time of booking your visit to Barby Hall.

Navigation to Barkby Hall will be in the form of TULIP navigation instructions - it's a fun way to navigate!

Address: Barkby Hall, Beeby Road, Barkby LE7 3QB

The Main Event - the 57th DLOC International Rally 2023

Location: The Great Rempstone Steam and Country Show at Wymeswold, Loughborough

The Great Rempstone Steam and Country Show at Wymeswold is one of the largest Steam and Motor Shows in the country.  It's a 2 day (Saturday and Sunday) event although we are only on our pitch on Sunday.
It is crammed full of fun things - showman steam tractors, lorries, busses, tractors, motorcycles, stationary engines - and much, much more. Lots of stalls, side shows, food and drink galore. A proper country fair.
This is the first year we have located our rally within a very large event and we hope all our members will like the idea and come along. This is our chance to showcase the Daimler, Lanchester, BSA marques.

PARADE AROUND SHOW RING
This is something new for the DLOC! At 10:30 the DLOC cars will be invited into the show ring for a parade and a commentator will describe each vehicle - using the information you've provided on the Registration Form so please make it as interesting as you can! And get there early!

PLEASE READ
We are guests at this very established show and have to abide by their rules which are in place for the safety and protection of the many visitors that attend. When you register for the rally, you will have a set of Conditions of Entry that you will need to acknowledge that you accept, in summary:
(1) your car must have insurance whi
ch includes £5 million Public Liability to cover Car Shows.
Most classic car insurance policies will comply but you must check the policy or consult your insurance broker but stress this is a CAR SHOW and not a RALLY.

For example, this is what a typical entry looks like- this is on the Schedule, not the Cover Note.

Other fun things to see and do in the East Midlands

Staunton Harold Estate and Ferrers Centre for Arts & Crafts

Steeped in intriguing history, surrounded by natural beauty and even with artists in residence, centuries-old Staunton Harold has almost been hand-crafted to charm visitors. Simply gazing through the ornate Golden Gates, at a vista little-changed since the 18th century, will stop you in your tracks. Georgian mansion Staunton Harold Hall and the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, complete with a serene lake, manicured lawns and grazing sheep is a landscape in oils brought to life.

The estate’s former stable block and now the Ferrers Centre for Arts and Crafts is another must-visit. Watch as craftspeople, from painters to blacksmiths, practise their art in front of you.
Adjacent to the courtyard, and set within historic walled gardens, Staunton Harold Nurseries & Garden Centre sells plants and gifts. It also serves up refreshments in the Peach House Restaurant.
