Visit to Arundel Town, the Castle and Grounds
Arundel Castle(0a).JPG

Arundel is located along the banks of the River Arun and is a charming, stylish picturesque market town dating back to the Norman Times. Dominated by the castle and cathedral, along with glorious surrounding countryside, Arundel really is a jewel within the West Sussex crown. The beautiful town has been preserved and remains unspoiled, allowing a plethora of independent shops selling a vast array of wonderful items. Add to that the numerous quintessential English tea shops and other refreshment houses, there really is something for everyone. Although there is much to see along the High Street, it is the side roads such as Tarrant Street, Maltravers Street and King Street, to name but a few that present some of the very best shops and places of interest that Arundel has to offer.

Arundel Castle, originally built in the 11th Century, is the historic home of the Dukes of Norfolk and has been continually occupied and renovated over the centuries. Today, Arundel Castle remains a vast complex, with many original features still intact such as the Norman Keep, Medieval Gatehouse, and Barbican. It is home to an impressive array of priceless artwork, such as works by Van Dyck, Gainsborough and Canaletto, as well as a vast collection of furniture, sculptures and tapestries. The displays also include possessions of Mary, Queen of Scots and the collection of furniture especially purchased for Queen Victoria's visit, including the bed she slept in.

The castle grounds and gardens provide a fascinating tour with Tropical and English Gardens, a unique stumpery, warm glasshouses that grow chillies, grapes and lemons, The Stew Ponds, to name but a few of the attractions within the grounds.

Combine Arundel Castle along with strolling through the town and it really does become a full day out, which I hope you thoroughly enjoy.

Our rally base for the day will be within the grounds of Arundel Castle, specifically parked on the Lower Lawn adjacent to the castle. This area will present our lovely cars beautifully and the Lower Lawn is next to one of the main pathways to tour the castle and grounds. Such is the position, that the DLOC will be highly visible to members of the public visiting Arundel Castle; it is fair to say there will be a lot of interested folk wanting to view our superb cars.

Further details of our visit to Arundel Castle and its lovely medieval town, will be published within the DLOC 2024 International Rally Programme.

Unfortunately, Arundel Castle does NOT allow dogs/pets on site, only accredited Assistance Dogs.

All tickets are to be prepaid before the visit and should you wish to visit Arundel Castle, processes will be in place to take payment and confirm your ticket entry choice in advance of the visit – i.e. Castle grounds only or Castle and grounds.

Entry to the Castle grounds and gardens for our visit will be £15 per person, and to upgrade for entry into the beautiful Castle is an additional £10 per person.
Prepayment is required, you will be emailed with payment methods once you have completed the Registation Form below.

(These are special discounted rates negotiated with the Trustees of the Castle.)

Visit to Amberley Museum

Travel back in time and explore the South’s working past in a former quarry and limeworks, located in the heart of the South Downs National Park.

The museum is extremely interesting, educational and informative with over forty exhibit areas to discover being located indoors and outdoors. These exhibits cover local heritage, transport, engineering and craft; in essence something for everyone.

Such is the layout of the museum, that all DLOC vehicles will be able to park within the grounds and form part of the museum's exhibits on the day. For example, your car may be parked outside the Lyon's Tea Shop; by an AA telephone kiosk; in front of the Southdown Bus Garage; adjacent to the Village Garage and Cycle Shop – to name but a few. All of these buildings and exhibits are period correct, hence your pride and joy will have a lovely backdrop for any photographic opportunities.

Full details of the visit to Amberley Museum will be included in your Rally Pack, plus any updates via the Driving Member as necessary.

The Trustees at Amberley Museum have very kindly agreed that entry to the site will be £10 per car including all occupants, which is jolly decent of them. The entry price also provides a 10% discount on any items purchased at the Limeburners Cafe or other food & drink outlets on site.

Prepayment is required, you will be emailed with payment methods once you have completed the Registration Form below.

As part of our DLOC International Rally programme, rally attendees will have the opportunity to drive a number of parade laps of the famous Goodwood Race Circuit. It is an esteemed race circuit, steeped in history and being able to drive the circuit is a rare opportunity, not even on the Revival or Speed Weekends does anyone have the chance to drive the circuit in their road-going car.

In order to make the visit worthwhile and cost effective, a minimum number of 36 cars will be required. The cost of driving the Goodwood Race Circuit will be £50 per car, including all occupants.

Goodwood lends itself to being one of the very best photographic opportunities throughout our rally. Not many folk can say or show their car on the Goodwood Race Circuit, let alone having been able to drive it!
Our presence at the Goodwood Race Circuit, will also coincide with Dementia Support and it is hoped that our vehicles will add to the charity's photographic opportunity. Great for them and great for us
!
